important Update for our wellmed patients

Important Insurance Update for WellMed HMO & PPO Patients.

Effective March 31, 2025, WellMed HMO and PPO policies will reinstate the referral requirement for specialist visits.

If you are covered under one of these plans, you will need a referral from your primary care provider (PCP) to see a specialist for appointments scheduled on or after this date.

To ensure uninterrupted care, please contact your PCP in advance to request the necessary referral.

Our team is happy to assist with any questions about this process or your coverage.

Thank you for your attention to this update.

We appreciate the opportunity to serve your healthcare needs.

Frequently Asked questions

Will I have a patient portal?

We are happy to announce that we have a patient portal powered by Athena Health. If you have already visited our new location you maybe able to login to your patient portal with the following link: PATIENT PORTAL.

Do I need a referral if I am an active patient?

To ensure your visit to North Texas Arthritis & Rheumatology is covered by your health plan at our new location, please obtain a referral from your primary care physician (PCP) prior to your appointment, if required by your insurance. Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans typically require a referral, while Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans may not. Established patients with Medicare A & B should not require a referral. Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans, which are offered by private insurers, may have different requirements.

What time should I arrive for my appointment?

For most appointments, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes prior to you appointment to complete patient paperwork and ensure we have up-to-date insurance information. Our doors lock after hours and for lunch. We will unlock the doors for at 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM which may impact check-in for our patients scheduled at these time.

Where will I do lab work?

We are happy to offer our patients on-site lab testing with our partner Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL).

CPL offers its own patient portal that allows access to your results from testing performed our clinic as well as other offices that use their services.

For more information, follow this link for the CPL PATIENT PORTAL.

I called and left a message. How will I know if my message was received?

When you call our office, our staff may be able to answer your question directly over the phone. When our staff is working with patients our phone is forwarded to a voice mailbox. Our voicemail box is monitored daily by our staff on weekdays. After hours calls and weekend calls are directed to our call service. For all questions and requests left in the voicemail box, please leave your name, date of birth, and phone number along with your request.  We will return your call unless otherwise indicated by the your voice message.

How do I get to the new clinic?

The easiest way to find our new clinic is to type our address into Google Maps -- 5800 Kell West Blvd Suite 500. Other map services have been taking our patient to the wrong location. Helpful landmarks include the Oncology center, Hospital, and adjacent medical complex. We are located west of these landmarks just beyond Guinn Ave and the roadside billboards.

Does your clinic perform disability evaluations?

Our rheumatology clinic does not perform disability evaluations or provide documentation for disability claims. We focus on diagnosing and treating rheumatic diseases to improve our patients' quality of life and manage their symptoms effectively. For disability evaluations, we recommend contacting your primary care physician or a specialized disability evaluation service. Our team is happy to provide your medical records to the appropriate parties with your consent to support any disability claims you may pursue.

I need a new provider to take on my controlled prescriptions. Does your clinic manage narcotics?

We do not prescribe or manage narcotic medications as part of our treatment plans. We focus on utilizing non-narcotic pain management strategies, disease-modifying drugs, and other specialized treatments for rheumatic conditions. For patients who may require narcotic pain medications, we recommend working with your primary care physician or a pain management specialist
